WILTON – The second annual free Family Style Christmas Dinner will be held on Christmas day from noon to 1:30 p.m. at the Harnden Masonic Hall. The hall is located on the Wilton Road across from Tractor Supply and will be fully decorated for the occasion.

Last year’s event served a hot, homemade meal to more than 150 people. This year, organizers hope to host at least 200 people.

“While we do hope to feed those that may not have a meal for whatever reason, our real focus is togetherness and community. The dinner is open to everyone and anyone who would like to attend,” Arleen Masselli said.

Masselli, who owns Knowlton Corner Farm, is one of the head organizers of the event. With the help of Amanda Beane of Farmington, Donna Dashnau of New Sharon, the Harnden Masons and many others, last year’s event was a great success.

“So many people came out of the woodwork with donations. It was amazing. That’s what this is really all about,” Masselli said.

The idea for a community dinner came to Masselli shortly after a devastating fire destroyed their barn four years ago. The barn was used as a riding arena to give lessons in and sometimes board horses in. Masselli said the fire took everything- leaving them with barely a rope to lead the horses with.

“The community came out for us in a way I have never experienced. It was humbling. That was what birthed the idea for the dinner.” Masselli said.

This year’s dinner menu will be the same as last year’s: ham, squash, mashed potatoes, rolls and pies. There will be live music, a visiting Santa Claus and goody bags for all those that attend.

Masselli and the crew are looking for volunteers for many jobs, such as serving dinner, cooking, decorating, playing music and drivers. The drivers will be offering to go pick up any homebound people and bring them to the dinner.

All local residents are encouraged to attend, regardless of hometown. Reservations are required by Dec. 22. For more information you can check out the Knowlton Corner Farm facebook page. You can also call Masselli at 778-6520.
