Garden party benefit for Literacy Volunteers Tuesday evening

FARMINGTON – Robin’s Flower Pot is holding a benefit garden party for Literacy Volunteers at the nursery on Webster Road Tuesday, Aug. 16, from 5 to 8 p.m.

Local authors Nancy Prince, Greg Zemansky, Doug Walrath, J. Bean Palmer, M.E. Brinton and Karen Calloway will be reading and talking about their books. There will be demonstrations of Tai Chi with Carol Yuen and square dancing with the Friendship Squares, music by The Merry Plinksters and Eddie Yuen playing Chinese music on erhu and flute, wine and beer tasting, and a homemade salsa contest.

Art works by Joyce Dubay and her students will be on exhibit, poetry readings by winners of the Farmington Library’s April Poetry Contest, a Petting Zoo by Matilda, shoulder and neck massage and a demonstration of spinning alpaca wool will all be part of the fun.

Light refreshments will be served (hot dogs, pita pockets, salads, watermelon, homemade donuts and make s’mores by the fire pit). There will be hourly door prize drawings and a free book table by Literacy Volunteers Traveling Library.

Suggested donation is $20 for adults and $5 for children under 18. Proceeds will go towards the Literacy Volunteer program. Robin’s Flower Pot is located at 387 Webster Road in Farmington, off the Knowlton Corner Road.
