WILTON – Hammond Lumber held a grand opening event for its newest location Thursday, with the hardware store’s founders cutting the yellow ribbon.

Hammond Lumber purchased Dexter Supply, located on the Wilton Road, in April. The company is headquartered in Belgrade and previously operated locally out of its location on the Farmington Falls Road. The Dexter Supply location represents the 13th store for Hammond, which began in 1953 as a three-man sawmill and entered the retail building supply business in 1967.

Thursday morning, the Hammond family, Wilton store staff and local Franklin County Chamber of Commerce and civic leaders gathered between a ribbon and the store. The ribbon was cut by Clifton “Skip” Hammond, who owned the sawmill that formed the basis of Hammond Lumber in 1953.

Manager Al Feather, who also runs the Farmington location, thanked the Chamber of Commerce and Wilton selectmen and officials for attending. He noted that the company had spent more than eight weeks remodeling the store and was “excited to join the community.”

Hammond Lumber also hosted a barbecue and tours to celebrate the opening.

The Wilton store’s hours are 7 a.m. to 5 p.m., Monday through Friday, and 8 a.m. through noon on Saturday.

Hammond’s other stores are located in Auburn, Bangor, Belgrade, Boothbay Harbor, Brunswick, Damariscotta, Fairfield, Greenville, Pemaquid, Portland and Skowhegan. More information about Hammond Lumber can be found at www.hammondlumber.com.
