OQUOSSOC – On June 6, the Rangeley Lakes Region Historical Society cordially invites the public to a celebration of our new monument and exhibit honoring the famous Rangeley Boat.

The new monument is designed to be a tribute to the Rangeley Boat, which was developed in the late 19th century for use of lakes in western Maine. A brick walkway and base will provide an opportunity to support the historical society’s preservation and history sharing efforts through the purchase of personalized bricks in honor of special people or places in the donor’s heart.

The festivities will take place on June 6 at 11 a.m. at the new monument located on the grounds of the Outdoor Sporting Heritage Museum at the corner of Routes 4 & 17 in Oquossoc. A brief dedication ceremony will be followed by a complimentary lemonade and cookie social as well as free admission to the museum for all who attend.

The RLRHS wishes to thank all those that provided the support necessary to make this project and its companion effort, the Rangeley Regatta possible.

Please join us as we celebrate and important part of Rangeley’s heritage. For more information please call 207-864-3091.

  1. Efforts like this should be applauded and supported before they are completely forgotten

As a kid growing up in Farmington my dad used to rent a camp for a couple weeks in the summer at the “lake” that had a Rangeley double ender included with the rent

I spent a lot of time in the Rangeley rowing down to Kyes (sp?) store for groceries and visiting friends at other camps on the lake

The Rangeley was the perfect personal water craft, quiet and didn’t smell!

  2. I have restored these boats for many years for people in Rangeley as well as out of the area, and continue to enjoy working on these unique boats.
