FARMINGTON – At its meeting Wednesday night, the University of Maine at Farmington’s Rotaract Club presented Western Maine Homeless Outreach with $200 that they raised from their Trunk or Treat and dodge ball events.

Rotaract is a club for adults ages 18-30 that meet to exchange ideas, plan activities and projects, and socialize. While Rotary clubs serve as sponsors, Rotaract clubs decide how to organize and run their club and what projects and activities to carry out.

UMF’s Rotaract club members also committed to voting for Western Maine Homeless Outreach at Bangor Savings Bank Foundation’s Community Matters More promotion. If Western Maine Homeless Outreach receives the most votes for the Androscoggin/Franklin/Oxford area, Bangor Savings Bank Foundation will donate $5,000 to WMHO.

“The $5,000 would be a huge help to WMHO’s homeless shelter” said Jackson Hodsdon, president of WMHO. “This winter we have remained opened during the day so that shelter guests don’t have to be out in the cold with no place to go. The money would pay some of the costs we have incurred with being opened during the day.”

All State of Maine residents are allowed to vote. Checking off Western Maine Homeless Outreach at www.bangor.com/cmm will get WMHO one more vote closer to winning. The deadline to vote is Feb. 28.
