This past year, the hospital received more than $617,000 from the estate of S. Paul Washburn of Livermore Falls. It was Washburn’s wish to have a health center built in Livermore Falls and in January of 2012, the $4 million, 13,500 square foot new Androscoggin Valley Medical Arts Center opened on Main Street.

On Nov. 21, 2013, Washburn, a resident of Livermore Falls for most of his adult life, died peacefully at his home at the age of 92. He was employed at International Paper Company in Jay as a bookkeeper in the business office for more than 25 years and served several terms on the Franklin Memorial Hospital Board of Directors.

He married the former Ellen Tobey of Kittery Point. She predeceased him in 2000. The couple, active in the local community, had no children.

He was a member of the Pine Cone Chapter 26, OES of Auburn; the Odd Fellows, the Bradford Royal Arch Chapter 9, and was a member of the Oriental Star Lodge 0021 of Livermore Falls, The Knights Templar Commandery 6 and the Grand Lodge AF & AM and the Kora Temple Shrine. He was a clerk and senior deacon at the First Baptist Church in Livermore Falls.

Washburn was noted in his obituary that, “his quietness could often give way to a quick smile and wry wit.”
