At about 1 a.m. Saturday, Jay police Officers Stephanie Guillemette and Will Herrin, along with officers from Livermore Falls and Wilton police departments, responded to a complaint of an intoxicated male outside of a Crash Road residence firing a shotgun.

“When officers arrived on scene the individual who had fired the shotgun was identified as Tristan Franchetti of Jay,” said Detective Michael Mejia of the Jay Police Department.

“A discharged shotgun shell was located on the ground outside of his residence,” he added.

The officers managed to make contact with Franchetti, 25, at his home and “he acknowledged that he fired the shotgun outside. A loaded firearm was seized from the doorway of residence,” Mejia said.

The officers reported that Franchetti appeared to be heavily intoxicated.

“Further investigation revealed that he had become angry during an argument and took possession of the firearm inside the home. He chambered a round into the shotgun and began making threats to another individual about firing it just prior to going outside and doing so,” Mejia said.

Franchetti was arrested and charged with felony Class B aggravated reckless conduct, felony Class C criminal threatening with a dangerous weapon, misdemeanors, both Class D, terrorizing and threatening display of a weapon.

He was transported to the Franklin County Detention Center and is currently being held on $75,000 cash bail. Franchetti is scheduled to appear at the Franklin County Superior Court on Oct. 25.

  1. I guess that in this day and age a man stepping outside his own home and firing a weapon in his own yard is news worthy….? Granted, I do not know this man or his history ( perhaps he was already known by Jay P.D.? ) but the Crash road is not exactly “in town” or a densely populated area. It seems like there must be more to this story if it is indeed a worthwhile “story”

  2. Bob Hope, thank you!

“felony Class B aggravated reckless conduct” and he “appeared to be heavily intoxicated.” Sounds like a bit of a “story” to me.

  3. Who let he prohibitionist in here? Alcohol is not a problem, the problem lies with the lack of self restraint and accountability.

  4. @ Scott Taylor, Reading the “story” might help you here, “Further investigation revealed that he had become angry during an argument and took possession of the firearm inside the home. He chambered a round into the shotgun and began making threats to another individual about firing it just prior to going outside and doing so,” Mejia said.

“Franchetti was arrested and charged with felony Class B aggravated reckless conduct, felony Class C criminal threatening with a dangerous weapon, misdemeanors, both Class D, terrorizing and threatening display of a weapon.”

Result: Making threats and discharging a weapon while intoxicated (regardless of where or in any day and age) = Class B felony, Class C felony. Arrested and held on $75,000 cash bail.

Hence, worthy of news coverage. Pretty simple.
