Jay selectpersons set budget time line

2 mins read

JAY – The Board of Selectpersons approved a time line for the 2017 budget process at Monday’s meeting, opting to keep the Budget Committee involved early in the deliberations.

It will be the second year that the committee attends the initial budgetary workshop in January with the selectpersons, town manager and department heads. Prior to last year, the committee became involved later in the process, issuing recommendations along with the board which appear on the town meeting warrant.

The schedule approved by the board would hold the budget workshop on Jan. 17 at the Spruce Mountain High School library at 6 p.m. If necessary, a second workshop would be held on Jan. 30. The budget meeting itself would be Feb. 13. In keeping with past practices, the committee and board will meet with the library, charitable and civic organizations on a separate night, Feb. 15, to determine non-municipal allocations.

The public hearing for the town meeting warrant would be on March 13 at the Spruce Mountain High School library at 6 p.m. The town meeting, conducted at the polls via a written ballot, would be April 25.

Nomination papers would be available on Jan. 30 for the Board of Selectpersons and RSU 73 school board. Papers would be due back at the town office on March 13.

The Board of Selectpersons in Jay, Livermore and Livermore Falls will meet with the RSU 73 school board on Nov. 2 at 6 p.m. at the Spruce Mountain Middle School in advance of the district’s budget season.

  1. This should be an easy budget. Simply no tax increase. Zero. Not even the 0.3% that social security is going up.

  2. Oh, I don’t know. I might be willing to give my extra $1.50 a month to the town. It would certainly be less than the $50.00 a month increase in my property taxes this year.
