Young marks the second Jay officer leaving his position in roughly a month. The first would be former detective Richard Caton, IV, who accepted the position of police chief and was confirmed by the Selectboard on Nov. 10. Caton had been the acting chief in Jay since Police Chief Larry White Sr. went on medical leave earlier this year. White, who passed away last month, had been the town’s police chief since 2002.

Young began serving the Jay community in 1999 as a reserve officer, after working for Androscoggin County as a corrections officer. He was hired as a full-time patrol officer in 2004 and was promoted to sergeant in 2007.

Selectboard Chair Stephen McCourt made the announcement at Monday’s board meeting, thanking Young for his service. He noted that the town would be looking to fill both Young’s sergeant position and Caton’s detective position.
