JAY – The North Jay Water District announced it has lifted the order to boil water for customers who were effected by the water main break on Saturday, Oct. 25 on Main Street.
After repairs were made to the pipeline, water samples were tested at a lab in Augusta and determined safe for public consumption, said Town Manager Shiloh LaFreniere on Wednesday.
“The water district wishes to express their thanks to all who were inconvenienced by this incident. With special thanks to all who dedicated their time and talents to getting the word out and repairing the damage to the system,” she wrote.
On Saturday, the North Jay Water District announced a boil-water order for those customers whose water service was interrupted on Saturday morning when a water main broke on Route 4.
Ronald J. Moreau, water district treasurer, said at the time, “the water line broke very early Saturday morning and it was a major break.” The break occurred in front of the North Jay Fire Station and next to the library.
Since then the customers who lost water have needed to boil it for at least one minute for consumption. After repairs were made to the pipeline, water samples were taken to a laboratory in Augusta and tested for E.coli and coliform bacteria.
