FARMINGTON – A woman involved in the theft of guns and other items from an ex-boyfriend’s house received a 4-year, partially-suspended prison sentence today, after pleading guilty to two felony counts.

Danielle Nelson, 26 of Lisbon, pleaded guilty to theft by unauthorized taking and burglary, both Class B felonies. Two other counts, possession of a firearm by a prohibited person and a misdemeanor charge of stealing drugs, were dismissed.

Nelson and two others were indicted by the Franklin County Grand Jury in May, after they were arrested in early April following an investigation by the Rangeley Police Department.

According to evidence that Assistant District Attorney Claire Andrews said that the state would have presented had the case gone to trial, Nelson had moved out of a Rangeley residence belonging to the victim on April 4. The next day, she contacted the victim and told him that he still had some of her things, asking to meet him in Auburn. The victim agreed, but Nelson did not show at the previously-arranged meeting place.

When the victim returned home, he realized that several items, including televisions, video game consoles, prescribed medical marijuana, cash and guns had been taken. Rangeley police investigated and were eventually informed via a witness that Nelson and another man, Kevin O’Donnell, 26 of Lisbon, had intended to steal the victim’s guns.

Rangeley police tracked Nelson and O’Donnell through her cellphone to a Lewiston-area hotel, where Lewiston Police Department personnel took them into custody. Nelson then confessed and named a third individual, Steven Sharpley, 21 of Lewiston, as the person who drove them to Rangeley to steal the guns and other items.

According to police, Sharpley then led law enforcement to a Lewiston address where the guns were located.

As part of the arranged sentence, Nelson would serve 4 years with 2 years suspended, followed by 3 years of probation. Conditions of her probation will include repaying $680 to the victim. That prison sentence will be served concurrent to a 2-year sentence out of the Androscoggin County court for an unrelated probation violation.

Sharpley and O’Donnell still face felony charges, including theft of a firearm and burglary, both Class B felonies, as well as a misdemeanor charge of stealing drugs. Those cases have not yet been resolved.

  1. Ok when are we going to stop giving people partially-suspended sentence. She was giving 4-years sentence . Which mean that is what she should serve. And also why was the two other counts dismissed. Let’s stop giving people a slap on the wrist all the time. You do the crime then you do the time.
