ORONO – The Mt. Blue Music department is proud to announce that three students from Mt. Blue High School were chosen to perform at the 2016 Maine Music Educators Association’s All State Music Festival.

The festival ran from May 19-21 at the University of Maine. Jillian Conant, a Mt. Blue High School junior, sang in the All State Chorus under the direction of Francis John Fogt, UMO director of choral activities. Conant sings in the MBHS chorus and plays violin in orchestra.

Freshman Hallie Pike performed in the All State Band under the direction of Linda Gammon, Northern Virginia junior winds director. Pike plays clarinet in the MBHS Concert and Jazz Bands.

Junior Nolan Rogers performed in the All State Orchestra under the direction of Bangor Symphony Orchestra conductor Lucas Richman. Rogers plays cello in the MBHS Orchestra and sings in the chorus.

Pike, Conant and Rogers also perform with Mid Maine Youth Orchestra among other ensembles.

All three students auditioned for the festival last November and were selected to participate in the All State Festival with the most accomplished student musicians from all corners of Maine. Students in grades 9-12 in 2016-17 will be eligible to audition for the 2017 All State Festival.

This year’s auditions will be held on Nov. 5 at Skowhegan High School, and the Festival will celebrate its 100th anniversary at the University of Maine at Orono on May 18-20, 2017. Band, chorus and orchestra students should contact their teachers for more information.

  1. Way to go Jillian, Hallie and Nolan – you’re not afraid to be awesome! 🎵

  2. Well done all. A great week for music in Western Maine. We live in a good place. So much said about negative aspects of Franklin County. This shows the other side of the coin and I, for one, am very proud of our young musicians in the area. Thanks to all the teachers and parents who spend countless hours making all this happen.
