Man arrested in connection with Wilton home invasion report
WILTON - A Massachusetts man was arrested in connection with the report of a local woman assaulted by two intruders in her home on July 4.
Devan Barrows, 18, of West Bridgewater, Mass., was arrested on Saturday by Wilton officers and charged with aggravated criminal trespass and assault.
At 10 p.m. on July 4, police received the report of a burglary and that an 18-year-old woman had been assaulted by two intruders in her Birch Street home. The pair were described in their late teens, one a slender female, about 5-foot, 7 inches tall and the other a male of average build, about six feet in height.
The alleged victim was transported by NorthStar EMS to Franklin Memorial Hospital with minor injuries and was later released. She told investigators that the family dog had bitten the male subject in his shin and that the suspects fled the house while she was in the bedroom, protected by the dog.
In the days following the report as police continued their investigation, the alleged victim changed portions of her story.
Five days after the initial report, Wilton Police Chief Heidi Wilcox said the 18-year-old woman actually did know at least one of the intruders. Other aspects of the alleged victim's story had also changed, Wilcox said.
However, Wilcox noted at the time, that the alleged victim continued to maintain that her dog did bite one of the suspects, but the case was no longer considered a home invasion by strangers.
No bail amount had been set as of Monday morning.
