Man charged in theft of 11 guns from Salem residence

SALEM – Maine State Police have arrested a Corinna man and charged a juvenile suspect in connection with the alleged theft of firearms from a home on the Salem Road.

Eleven handguns and rifles were reported stolen earlier this month.

According to Maine Department of Public Safety spokesman Steve McCausland, David Ireland, 53, of Corinna, was arrested on a charge of burglary, theft by unauthorized taking and furnishing a prescription drug. A juvenile suspect was charged, but not arrested, on charges of burglary and theft.

According to Trooper Reid Bond, a Salem Road homeowner reported the theft of 11 guns earlier this month. Last week, Newport Police Lt. Randy Wing received a tip that Ireland had pawned one of the stolen guns at a local pawn shop. Maine State Police personnel were able to recover that weapon.

Ireland was arrested and his home was searched, and the missing 10 guns were not located. Anyone with information on the missing firearms is asked to contact State Police in Augusta at 624-7076.
