WEST FARMINGTON – A hardy volunteer skied a little more than 62 miles and in doing so raised more than $9,000 to light up the Nordic trails at Titcomb Mountain recently.
David Huish was accompanied by family and friends in his 100-kilometer “Light It Up” fund raising Nordic ski marathon feat to bring lights to the Nordic trails at Titcomb. Lights have been installed on Bog Loop trail and the area known at the stadium, which will be in part paid for from this fund raiser. But, thanks to the generous amount that came in pledges, additional lights can now be installed this summer on Cedar Swamp, Turnpike and Rock Slide trails.
Farmington resident Ricard Bjorn stepped forward and offered a substantial pledge when he heard about Huish’s fund raiser.
Tony and Welly Ramsey added their support by skiing alongside Huish, along with school ski team members, friends and family urging him on to complete the marathon held on Feb. 12.
Huish put in plenty of training to get ready for the fundraiser in which he skied an 8.38 kilometer loop 12 times to get to 100 kilometers.
Nordic Trail Light Project organizers said providing lights for evening skiing will benefit local schools’ ski teams, the Nordic learn-to-ski programs for children and adults and community skiers.
