WILTON – Veterans, family members and friends gathered around the Civil War memorial at town center on Sunday in a remembrance event to honor those who died in military service.

State Rep. Russell Black of Wilton noted the importance of honoring those veterans who have sacrificed for their country.

Memorial Day is a time “we can remember and salute them,” Black said. It’s “the one day we show our appreciation,” and “profound gratitude.” He added it’s also important to teach others “so we can continue to enjoy our freedom.”

State Sen. Tom Saviello of Wilton read Soldier Buried on the Battlefield and Sammy Angel sang the National Anthem. A wreath was placed at the war memorial by veterans Skip Thompson and Cleon Fletcher and a wreath was tossed into Wilson Stream. Boy Scouts Jon Jacques and Aidan Welch served as color guard.

A parade after the ceremony marched through town accompanied by the Old Crow Indian Band where a small cermony was held the Wilton Lions Club building.

  1. Profound thanks to all that have served and those that gave the ultimate sacrifice, so that we can enjoy the freedoms we have. May we always continue to honor future Patriots that protect our freedoms we have
