Mt Blue boys alpine ski teams repeats as Class A state champs

GREENWOOD – After two days of competition, the Mt. Blue High School boys alpine ski team won the overall title of Maine State Class A alpine champions in races held last week.

Mt Blue took a commanding lead on the first day of racing held at Mt Abram ski area. The championship races consisted of teams from 13 Class A-size schools. The first day consisted of two races in slalom followed the next day of two giant slalom races on the world famous Mt Abram’s Boris Bandenoff’s black diamond trail. The fresh snow had set up for great skiing.

Mt. Blue’s Kyle Farrington, a junior, lead the team with a solid 2nd place performance. Anthony Franchettie, a senior raced to a 10th place finish. Mitchell Haines, a junior earned a 12th place finish, followed by Miles Pelletier a sophomore Ski Meister rounding out Mt Blue’s scoring at 16th place. Dylan Roberts, a junior and Hunter Bolduc, a freshman rounded out the six-person boys team.

The Mt Blue boys achieved a commanding low combined score of 40 points after the slalom over Greeley’s score of 73, Scarborough at 75 and Edward Little close behind at 82 points at the conclusion of the first days event.

The following day the giant slalom race was held also at Mt Abram’s Boris Bandenoff’s Black diamond trail. The snow was groomed smooth with warmer temps in the teens. Mt Blue’s leading scorer was Dylan Roberts in 6th place, followed by Kyle Farrington in 8th, Anthony Franchettie in 12th and in 14th place Mitchell Haines. Miles Pelletier finished in 21st and Mitch Guillaume rounding out at 26th place. The day’s total 40 points earned the giant slalom win.

At the awards ceremony, Mt Blue Alpine Boys Team had a combined 80 points for the two days of competition earning them the overall title of Maine State Class A Alpine Champions for the second year in a row. Edward Little came in second place with a combined score of 158, nearly double Mt. Blue’s score.
