New officer on the Farmington force

FARMINGTON – After a seven-year veteran of the Farmington Police Department resigned a new officer has been hired.

Jesse A. Clement, most recently of the Carrabassett Valley Police Department was hired to fill the position after William Tanner resigned last month. Tanner, Police Chief Jack Peck told selectmen at their last meeting, resigned to pursue other business interests.

Clement, 26, of New Portland, is a graduate of Carrabec High School in North Anson, attend military police school and served in the Army Reserves in Afghanistan. He holds an associate degree in criminal justice from the University of Maine at Augusta and last year graduated from the Maine Criminal Justice academy. He was also a corrections officer in Kennebec and Franklin counties before his CVPD post.

Peck said four people applied for the position with Clement the top candidate. Of Tanner, Peck said “he will be missed and we wish him well.”

Clement started work on Thursday.

“He’s a nice young man with a couple of years of experience,” Peck said of Clement.
