FARMINGTON – A New Sharon man will be held without bail after police say he struck a woman with a loaded revolver which followed last month’s charges involving an incident in which a state trooper was shoved at the courthouse.

On Feb. 7, Ronald Begin, 53, was at Farmington District Court to respond to initial charges of driving to endanger and criminal trespass, when he began using “foul language,” according to police and was warned to quiet down. Later, in a conference room at the court building while reviewing videotape for his case with attorneys, Begin reportedly got increasingly agitated, eventually shoved Trooper Aaron Turcotte and was placed under arrest. He was charged then with disorderly conduct, refusing to submit to arrest and violating the conditions of his release.

The most recent charges are Class B aggravated domestic violence assault and violating conditions of his release, which are expected to be presented to a grand jury on June 4.

In Franklin County Superior Court today, Assistant District Attorney James Andrews said Begin took a loaded revolver and struck the woman’s head. “The state is very concerned,” Andrews said of granting a bail amount that would release Begin.

Defense attorney, Christopher Berryment, who was representing Begin during today’s court proceeding, recommended $1,000 cash bail be set as part of a pretrial contract.

Justice Michaela Murphy ordered Begin be held in custody without bail on the Feb. 7 incident and $25,000 cash bail on the domestic violence assault charge. She also attached conditions he have no contact with the victim and to not possess firearms.

Begin was initially out on bail after he was charged with disorderly conduct, refusing to submit to arrest and violating the conditions of his release.

A trial date of April 25 was scheduled on those initial district court matters.
