NEW SHARON – A 19-year-old New Sharon man was injured when his car left the road and rolled over, striking a tree Thursday night.  He has been charged with operating under the influence.

According to Sgt. Matthew Brann of the Franklin County Sheriff’s Office, a person stopped by New Sharon Fire Chief Roger Foster’s home at 10:42 p.m. Thursday to notify him that there had been a rollover crash on Starks Road in New Sharon. Foster reported the crash to emergency dispatchers and responded with members of his department to the scene.

Brann and Deputy Derrick Doucette also responded to the crash scene, arriving to find a 2000 Honda Accord “with it’s roof up against a tree,” Brann reported.

Jaakob Lundy, 19, of New Sharon, “was not wearing his seat belt and was pinned in the car,” Brann said. Fire fighters helped him out of the car and placed him on a backboard. Lundy, believed to have sustained a head injury, was transported to Franklin Memorial Hospital by Northstar EMS ambulance personnel.

“Jaakob was traveling on the Starks Road towards New Sharon when he came around a corner and lost control and went off the road, rolled over and struck a tree. Jaakob was traveling too fast for the road conditions,” Brann said, and was summonsed by Doucette on a charge of operating under the influence.

  1. Thanks to all who did their job in a situation like this. But how do we really acknowledge what they mean to us and to the quality of life the protect for us all. I especially appreciate the mention that the driver’s seat belt was not being used at the time of the accident.

  2. My heart is heavy for him and his family. I am glad he is “ok”! Hoping for a speedy recovery. It’s funny how some look at this from a law and lesson stand point..while others just hope for a speedy recovery with understanding of what happened and what becomes not ok… ❤
