NEW SHARON – Residents are invited to come meet candidates for the next selectman at a morning social event on Saturday, Feb. 23.

Selectman Bob Neal is not running for his position this year, opening up a three-year term on the Board of Selectmen. Four residents have returned nomination papers prior to the deadline: Dennis McCourt, Paula Nason, Donald Richard and Joseph Rollins.

Lorna Nichols and Travis Pond currently sit on the three-member Board of Selectmen with Neal. The selectman seat is the only position up for election this year.

All the residents that returned nomination papers prior to the deadline have been invited to the event, which will begin with a half-hour social period starting at 8 a.m. From 8:30 a.m. to 9:30 a.m., the four candidates will be provided with time for introductions, as well as a question and answer session.

Moderated by Paul Mills, the event will take place at Cape Cod Hill School. Light refreshments will be available.

The election will be held on Friday, March 1 from noon to 7 p.m. at the town office. The annual town meeting will take place the following morning, Saturday, March 2 at 9 a.m.
