JAY – Students will return to Regional School Unit 73 schools Tuesday, where a new superintendent and staff will seek to build on established programs.
The first day of school for students of Livermore Elementary School, Jay Elementary School, Spruce Mountain Middle School and Spruce Mountain High School is Tuesday, Sept. 2, at the usual time.
Greeting them will be Superintendent Kenneth Healey, who took over for Robert Wall on July 1. Healey has previously served as an assistant principal at Westbrook High School for five years before he was appointed as the top administrator of Lisbon High School.
Joking that he was so new that he didn’t have any changes to announce, Healey did note that other new staff members included two new guidance counselors at the high school and a significant number of new faces at Livermore Elementary, including principal Kevin Harrington.
It is the second year of RSU 73 operating a single high school campus, and will be the second year that the district holds a single graduating ceremony in June. However, unlike the 2014 ceremony, a single valedictorian, salutatorian and set of top 10 students will be recognized.
Administrators and teachers had a “very successful” Teacher’s Day Wednesday, one of two staff workshops to conclude the summer recess.
Pre-kindergarten classes had moved into both of the elementary schools, Healey noted. Previously, pre-K had been held at the district’s central office in Livermore Falls.

Start on Highland Ave. To Park Street, stop at bottom of Oak street for Michelle Moffett’s daycare, then to Cargill/Church, Cargill/Knapp, then pick up at Sherry’s Daycare, Then to Bemis, Otis, picking up at Carol Brown’s daycare. Union, Green, Millett (all at int. of Knapp.) then to Church, then to Main St. Proceed to JES for drop off then to Franklin Street stop, then to LES.

First stop at intersection of Park and Hillman Ferry Road, proceed on Park Street to Town Line (Tucker Rd.), back to designated stops at mailboxes at both intersections of Hunton Loop to Dodge Road to River Road to Androscoggin Bluff, River Road, stop at Karn Rd., and then back to Park Street to Highland Avenue with stops of int. of Highland/Oak, Highland/Maple, and Highland/Birch then back to Park Street.
