FARMINGTON – A new taxi service has just started up that will fill a real need in this community.

Kellon Alexis started up Farmington Taxi service one week ago when he realized after moving here that there wasn’t a local ride service available.

“I needed a taxi myself and someone suggested that I should open up a taxi service,” Alexis said. “I found what I needed and it became reality.” Needed was the selectmen’s approval, which they gave last month, for a license and he got the insurance he needed for the operation’s two sedans.

He’s hired two drivers, Weld native Jayson Lee and Love Call of Waterville, who is an English major attending the University of Maine at Farmington.

Alexis said he is thankful for the encouragement the community has given him to start his own business.

“It went pretty smoothly,” he said of the start up. “It was as though it was meant to happen,” he added.

He wants his company to become a part of the community by, “providing friendly, courteous and professional service” to those in need of a ride. Alexis is trying to get the word out about his service by posting flyers at the local bars and he’s been in touch with healthcare providers for those who may need a ride to medical appointments.

Lee noted last Friday and Saturday nights were busy with providing rides to customers leaving the bars for home.

“The bars are liking it because it promotes safe driving,” he said, “and people attending the bars really like it.”

A unique service Farmington Taxi provides is to drive the bar customer’s vehicle home for them. While there is an added fee, the bar patron won’t have to get a ride back to the bar to retrieve his or her vehicle.

After checking with other taxi services and customers he’s set a base in-town rate of $5 for up to four miles of transportation. Every mile after that, is $1.50 per mile. The service operates 24 hours a day everyday. After 10 p.m. the base fare is $10 up to 4 miles and $1.50 per mile after that.

Alexis offers seniors and those disabled with a 20 percent off round trip discount.

“We’re excited. We want to build a good reputation in the community,” Alexis said. For a taxi, call 207-500-3512.
