FARMINGTON – Members of the Old South Church are celebrating their bicentennial year with a special program and reception next month.
On Sunday, Sept. 7, from 2 – 5 p.m. a special music and history program and reception will be held at “Old South,” the First Congregational Church UCC on Main Street. Rev. Alexis Fuller-Wright and the Bicentennial Committee invited the Farmington area community to join them for this time of celebration.
The program will include history highlights, music presentations by the Old South Choir, including a new composition written for the occasion by director Dr. Bruce McInnes, organ music by Patricia Hayden, frame drumming by InnerRhythm. In addition, recognition of former pastors of Old South, and the unveiling of the new bicentennial quilt created by Old South quilters will take place. The program will be followed by refreshments and a social time in the vestry.
Bicentennial activities will continue this fall, including a “200 Acts of Kindness” challenge to the church membership. For more information, contact the church office at 778-0424 or visit www.farmingtonucc.org.
Sounds wonderful!
If any one asked, they’d know that Farmington historical Society has some amazing old documents that predate the fire of 1886 – some original signatures of Isaac Rogers, and others. I don’t know why people in this town don’t check around to see what’s available at the Historical Society.
We also have some neat old pictures that predate the 1886 fire, and we were given a piece of the melted bell found in the ashes after the fire.
But no one asked…
