Ribbon cutting ceremony to open Bass Park lot

WILTON – Town officials will hold a ribbon cutting for the new Bass Park parking lot Tuesday, capping a project that was made possible through a local donation.

The parking lot, which is expected to provide space for approximately a dozen vehicles behind Bass Park, was made possible through the donation of $30,000 by a local couple.

The couple, who wanted to remain anonymous, made the donation in October 2013 after learning that the town was unlikely to receive grant funding for the purchase of the land. A group of community members had been working on the purchase in order to add parking for the popular park, located next to Wilson Lake.

Tuesday’s ceremony will begin at 6:30 p.m., prior to the Selectboard meeting at the Wilton Town Office at 7 p.m. According to Town Manager Rhonda Irish, those involved in the purchase of the property and the construction of the lot will be thanked. Future plans for the park will also be announced.
