FARMINGTON – Following Friday’s annual fishing program for adults with developmental disabilities, Rollo Pond in Abbott Park will be available to qualifying members of the public under  Maine’s fishing code.

According to Assistant Director Seth Noonkester of the Farmington Parks & Recreation Department, the pond will be open to the public after Friday’s event under the state’s fishing S-9 code. That allows children under the age of 16 and adults with an S-9 relevant license to catch a maximum of two-fish per day per person, beginning Saturday, June 25. The pond has been stocked with 125 rainbow trout.

Instead of the annual fishing derby program for children, a one day fishing instruction session for children 4-7 was held on Thursday morning. The popular children’s fishing program, which featured as many as 36 children fishing from marked spaces along the banks of Rollo Pond in Abbott Park on the University of Maine at Farmington campus,  can no longer  be held there because shrubs were planted around the pond this spring which limit fishing access to a smaller area so the program can no longer be held at the pond.

  1. This is very nice to see…however the fourth of July derby not taking place is sad…my kids did it until the aged out…sorry to see the fun and excitement go

  2. This is something that the kids really enjoy. WHY WERE THERE SHRUBS PLANTED IN THE FIRST PLACE!! If we keep hindering these chances for our children to enjoy the outdoors, where is that to leave them in the future? Seems to me that our kids are more important than shrubbery!!
