School closed today in RSU 9, MSAD 58, RSU 73 & RSU 78; event cancellations updated

THURSDAY, MARCH 1: All schools are closed today in Mt. Blue RSU 9 (Chesterville, Farmington, Industry, New Sharon, New Vineyard, Temple, Vienna, Wilton, Weld), MSAD 58 (Avon, Kingfield, Phillips, Stratton and Strong), RSU 73 (Jay, Livermore and Livermore Falls) and RSU 78, (Rangeley), due to a winter storm warning.

The following events or agencies have been postponed, canceled or closed for March 1:

The Wilton Planning Board Meeting for March 1 is canceled due to weather. The agenda items will be placed on the agenda for March 15.

State offices in Franklin, Oxford, Lincoln, Knox, Waldo, Sagadahoc, Hancock, Androscoggin and Kennebec Counties will close at 1 p.m. due to the snow storm. State offices located in York and Cumberland Counties closed earlier today. Maine.gov’s Citizen Alert System has been established as a way for Maine state government to keep the public informed about events that may impact public health or safety. The alert system includes weather related updates such as state closures. Information issued through the Maine.gov Citizen Alert System is provided directly from authorized state government officials.

The Franklin County government offices are closing at 2:00 p.m. today.

The Emblem Club meeting for tonight is canceled and rescheduled to next Thursday, March 8, same time. At this meeting we will have Past Presidents recognition and election of officers.

The Jay-Niles Memorial Library in North Jay will be closed today.

The Western Maine CA$H Coalition FREE Tax preparation scheduled for Thursday night from 5 – 9 at UMF is canceled.

The Warming Center in Farmington that is held at Old South Church on Thursdays will not be open today, March 1, because of snow.

Farmington Rotary’s meeting for scheduled for 7 a.m. on March 1 is canceled due to weather.

March 1 Forum in Stratton Canceled: A community forum scheduled for Thursday, March 1, 6 – 8 p.m. at the Eustis Community Building in Stratton on land use and the potential impacts of proposed legislation to reform the Land Use Regulation Commission has been postponed due to forecasts for inclement weather. The forum was sponsored by the Western Mountains Alliance and Greater Franklin Development Corporation.
