Selectman recognized for MMA service

FARMINGTON – A local selectman who has served as president on the executive committee of the Maine Municipal Association was recognized for his service.

As the board’s president, Stephan Bunker is hosting the 12-member committee over the next two days here in his hometown. Besides working through the agenda items, the committee is scheduled to be given a walking history tour by Taffy Davis, president of the Farmington Historical Society, and meet local officials at a reception Thursday night.

Bunker said he was honored to host the committee meeting in is hometown.

“This is an exciting opportunity to show the best Farmington has to offer,” he said before the meeting got under way in the banquet room at the Homestead Kitchen, Bar & Bakery in downtown.

Among the agenda items the committee will be tacking during the two-day conference will be setting MMA’s strategy for the coming year and to discuss the ballot on the upcoming November ballot. MMA is a voluntary membership organization that offers professional services to municipalities and other local governmental entities in Maine. Services include advocacy, education and information, professional legal and personnel advisory services, and group insurance self-funded programs, according to its website.

Bunker has served on the Farmington Board of Selectmen for several terms and is a fire fighter on the Fire Rescue Department. He is retired after a career at the Maine State 911 Bureau.

Laurie Smith, Kennebunkport’s town manager, will be the incoming board president for next year.

“Getting around the state is important to us, said Eric Conrad MMA’s director of communication and educational services, to experience each member’s community.

“We’ve come to a beautiful town,” he added of Farmington.
