FARMINGTON – No need to throw away a favorite pair of shoes in need of new soles or that faithful winter coat with a broken zipper now that a new repair service has come to the Saturday Farmington Farmers’ Market.

For three Saturdays now, Lucas Argrew, owner of Beyond Shoe Repair in Auburn, has set up a booth at the local market, with a drop off and pick up service for people who need of most types of heavy duty sewing repair service.

Argrew, with seven years of shoe and many other types of sewing repair experience, opened his shop two years ago in Auburn. He offers the pick-up-and-fix service to other communities and was looking for other areas in need of this service.

He was attending the Fiddlehead Festival in May when he met Marjorie Cormier, a vendor and organizer of the farmers’ market, who suggested he set up a booth on Saturdays at the market. On his third Saturday, five customers dropped of repair work for him to fix. He said he’s pleased with the customer response so far.

Much of the work can be completed by the next week, he said.

“I always call the customer when the work is finished,” Argrew said, so they know when to come for pick up at the market.

His repair work includes shoes, leather bags, slippers or boots or broken zippers. He fixes all kinds of outdoor and athletic gear, zipper repair and replacement, leather, anything that requires heavy stitching, rivet work, and will do some custom orders too.

The market is setup in the District Courthouse parking lot at 129 Main Street in Farmington on Saturdays, from 9 to noon. Argrew can be contacted by phone at his shop 783-5403 or email here.

  2. I’m so excited to hear this! As soon as I read the article, I dug out a favorite pair of shoes in need of repair (being from a generation that grew up fixing, rather than tossing out things), and will stop at the Farmer’s Market this morning. It will be good to have this service in our area.

  3. Oh yeah!! This is good news for Farmington area!! I shared on FaceBook. Way to go Supply meeting demand!
