CARRABASSETT VALLEY – In advance of a potentially significant snowstorm expected to hit in the next 24 hours, organizers at the Maine Special Olympic Winter games have decided to conclude all events tonight.

Competitions scheduled for Tuesday, Jan. 27, have been cancelled, with organizers working to fit in as many events as possible until Monday evening. One of the major issues is the lack of food or housing for athletes and supporters after Tuesday, which could create issues if the snowstorm were to strand people through the scheduled conclusion of the 2015 games.

Any group that made the decision not to attend the Winter Games is being asked to contact organizers immediately. Contact Special Olympics Maine via email, ianf@somaine.org, or phone 207-237-2000 and ask for Special Olympics Maine.

More information about today’s opening ceremonies and events will be posted later today.
