WELD – State Police are investigating a string of burglaries that occurred overnight at convenience stores in Weld, New Vineyard and Jay either late Tuesday night or early Wednesday morning. Police are asking the public for help in identifying two suspects.

Two young men are believed responsible for burglaries overnight at the Skoolhouse Variety on School Street in Weld, Our Village Market in New Vineyard and My Dad’s Place in North Jay, according to Steve McCausland, spokesman for the Maine Department of Public Safety.

“Both intruders were wearing gloves and had blue bandanas to cover their faces. One is a white male with short dark hair and the other is a slender black man with thick rimmed glasses,” he said.

Entry into the stores was made by breaking the glass in the front doors. Stolen were cigarettes, alcohol and chewing tobacco.

Anyone with information on the burglaries should call State Police in Augusta at 624-7076.
