FARMINGTON – A driver received minor injuries and a summons after police say his car crashed and he left the scene, walking more than a mile to a Chesterville resident’s house.

At about 5 p.m. on Monday, a passerby on Knowlton Corner Road near Smiley Road called police after spotting a heavily damaged vehicle that had gone off the road, down an embankment and into the trees.

When crews arrived no one could be found at the scene. After checking the 1998 Subaru Legacy’s registration, the owner of the vehicle was contacted by police and was eventually able to contact her son who had been reportedly driving her vehicle.

Police caught up with Wesley Adams, 25, of Strong, who had walked from the crash scene more than a mile to a house on Zion’s Hill Road in Chesterville.

According to Sgt. Edward Hastings IV, Adams remembered little about the accident.

He told Hastings he remembered driving on Knowlton Corner Road, hitting the soft shoulder and going off the road, but can’t recall the crash. Adams suffered from scrapes and bruises; the station wagon was extensively damaged.

Police summonsed Adams for failure to report an accident by the quickest means possible.

Farmington Fire Rescue personnel assisted at the scene.

  1. Really?! They are going to summons him for not reporting the accident when he was dazed from the accident and walked a mile to find help? What is up with that?

  2. I’m with B.J, Mr. Adams totals his car, is injured to the point of not remembering what happened (one indicator of TBI), walks a mile injured to get help and the response is a summons? What am I missing here?

  3. Sometimes some people have reasons for leaving the scene and not reporting an accident promptly, sometimes good, sometimes not so good. Assume the officer knew that.
