JAY – The Androscoggin Land Trust is sponsoring a trail tour of the Alden Hill Conservation Area on Monday, June 20. The public is invited to come tour the Alden Hill Property with members of the Androscoggin Land Trust and its Jay, Canton, and Livermore Falls Community Forest Advisory Board. Participants will meet at the Jay Town Office at 6:30 p.m. and drive a short distance to the Alden Hill Conservation Area to explore this beautiful property off Alden Hill Road, which is accessed via the Crash Road.

The Androscoggin Land Trust (ALT) is a private, non-profit 501(c)(3) membership-supported organization dedicated to protecting, through land conservation and stewardship, the important natural areas, traditional landscapes, and outdoor experience in the Androscoggin River watershed. The ALT owns a number of properties in the Jay, Livermore Falls, and Canton area and all are open to the public for recreational use.

This event will celebrate a coincidental occurrence of the June full moon and the longest day of the year, which both occur on June 20, by exploring the 176-acre Alden Hill Conservation Area. The property features white pine thriving in thin, hillier soils and sugar maples and pines along the Androscoggin River.

Not only will participants get to explore Alden Hill, they will also have an opportunity to learn about other ALT and public recreational properties in the area and will be able to learn about GPS navigation and the sport of geocaching. Bring a GPS if you have one and GPS units will be available for use. The event should conclude before dark so you may enjoy the madness of the full moon!

For more information, you can contact Town Manager Shiloh Ring at the Jay Town Office (897-6785).
