WILTON – Students and teachers spent Thursday afternoon behind the Academy Hill School cafeteria, painting a gigantic map of the United States alongside a couple of new Four Square courts.

The map replaces a preexisting one that long since faded after years of rain, sun and the countless sneakers of AHS students. Three teachers traced the map this summer: Lorraine Campbell, Valerie Benton and Jenny MacIsaac, with students from the Future Business Leaders of America club at the Mt. Blue Campus to fill in the states with red paint. Lakes and rivers will be appearing in blue, MacIsaac noted.

Through the Positive Behavior Interventions & Supports Committee, teachers successfully applied for a $400 grant for playground equipment, including Four Square balls. The school held a “fun day” earlier this year, teaching students how to play the game, which involves bouncing balls in a court of Four Squares.

While painting the Four Square courts Thursday, students also filled in states with red paint. The teachers could use additional red paint to complete the United States; anyone with a donation of money or red paint can get in touch with the Academy Hill School.

  1. John Ranger voluntarily painted the original map over the summer many years ago. I’m so glad it’s been maintained.

  2. A HUGE thank you to Steve’s Market and Jack Mills for donating paint to the Academy Hill School’s PBIS playground project! Our community members are truly the best!
