PHILLIPS – A Temple woman faces charges this morning, after she and her two daughters were injured when her vehicle struck a tree on Bridge Street Tuesday evening.

Tabatha Chabot, 34 of Temple, has been charged with two misdemeanors, operating under the influence and endangering the welfare of a child, following a Franklin County Sheriff’s Office investigation into a Phillips crash.

According to a report filed by FCSO Sgt. Matthew Brann, Phillips Fire Department, NorthStar EMS and FCSO’s Brann and Deputy Derrick Dourcette were called to Bridge Street at roughly 6:11 p.m. Tuesday evening after receiving a report of a motor vehicle crash. It appeared that a 2002 Dodge Intrepid was heading towards town on Bridge Street when it failed to negotiate a turn and struck a tree head on. Chabot, the reported operator of the vehicle, was in the car with her two daughters.

All three individuals sustained injury. Chabot had a possible fractured femur, the 14-year-old daughter complained of foot pain, while the seven-year-old daughter had pain in her head. All three were transported to Franklin Memorial Hospital by NorthStar EMS. The vehicle was towed from the scene by Main Street Service of Strong.

“Speed and alcohol appear to be factors of the crash,” Brann wrote in a report filed last night, noting that a blood kit had been taken.

This morning, Sheriff Scott Nichols indicated that Chabot had been charged with two misdemeanors.

  1. ….As if drinking and driving was not bad enough….then you endanger your two innocent children’s lives too!! Shame on you Tabatha!!!

  2. My god..bad enough to be drinking and driving, but them poor kids. the kids should be taken away until she gets help and proves to the court she is fit to get them back…..hope she doesn’t just get a slap on the wrist. She needs to wake up to the fact that her kids could have been hurt badly or even worse, killed!!!

  3. Thankful all seem to have minimally injured … that looks like a serious crash and could have turned out a lot worse. Please remember as you comment that the children involved also have to deal with the rumors and comments that circulate in a small town environment, hurtful comments hurt them as well.

  4. Kudos to you “Just Saying”, you must be perfect. This accident is terrible for Mom and all of her babies. It’s a miracle that the injuries weren’t much worse. Stay strong for your babies Tabitha! You 4 beautiful girls, lean on each other and let others hold you. You’ll all come out the other side of this so much stronger!

  5. So driving under the influence and crashing with your kids in the car is a misdemeanor? Yet the Rangeley fellah who stole a bulldozer and drove it in a swamp setting it on fire is a class A Felony?! That’s the difference between probation (OUI ect.) and a minimum of 5 yrs in prison (arson). Our judicial system makes zero sense. I would rather lose my bulldozer then my children. How could anyone stand up for this women and tell her to be strong? (neighbor comment) She deserves jail. She deserves to lose her kids unsupervised until she can prove she is sober and smarter then the day she made the worst decision of her life. What if you were the one who got hit “Neighbor”? What if your kids were killed due to this woman’s stupidity? Bet you wouldn’t be sticking up for this lady then. It is disgusting how naive some can be.

  6. Neighbor – I am not perfect…..however I would never get behind the wheel intoxicated with my children in the vehicle, and risk their lives and other innocent lives on the road!!! I have no sympathy….sorry!

  7. This road has a speed limit of 25 mph from one end to the other. I know of 2 high school kids, and 5 grade school kids that either live or visit grand parents on this road.Anyway 3 kids live on this road 24/7. Where she crashed was on a blind corner on a hill that she was heading downhill. And by the rubber marks she was in the center of the road on a corner when she applied the brakes. I’m just glad that nobody was walking up that hill on that side of the road.

  8. Kudos, Just Sayin! It is by no means a “perfect” world. Most definately, when ignorant people, get behind the wheel, under the influence, then what happens is hardly an “accident”; but by all means a tragedy! God help these children find someone to foster their growth – before their lives are taken way too early. Excuses for actions like this, will only help people go 6 feet under, and pushing up daisies.
Neighbor: maybe watching the kids for her, until her life straightens out, would be more helpful than crapping on someone making a legitimate observation about POOR choices!
If you don’t call it what it is, these things happen again & again, and addiction will kill the entire family.

  9. I applaud people like “neighbor” and “deb” for thinking of the negativity that the rest of your bring to the innocent victims “the children” who have to absorb the negativity about someone they love. prior to “deb” mentioning that the children can see and hear these comments, its understandable a few of you did not think of it. After that… you might as well go to their school and bully them.
