WEST FARMINGTON – Under bright blue early spring skies, the Titcomb Mountain ski slope was open for one last day on Sunday to allow skiers and riders to put an exclamation mark on a long and excellent ski season.

Titcomb Mountain, one of the country’s oldest publicly owned and managed ski mountains, had a banner year by any measure. According to the mountain’s tireless manager Megan Roberts, Titcomb was open for 85 days of skiing — more days than any season in recent memory — and saw a healthy growth in seasonal ski passes, day lift tickets and participants in its many learn-to-ski programs.

The 29-member, all-volunteer Titcomb Mountain Ski Patrol skied a total of 2,643 hours this season and helped 39 injured skiers and snowboarders — fortunately, none of those injuries too serious.

A year-end lack of ingredients didn’t stop head commissary chef-extraordinaire Greg Rackliffe and his crew of volunteers from feeding the masses.  In between serving 5,179 orders of french fries this past season, Greg and his volunteers also served up homemade soups, chowders, and a variety of other specialties.
