FARMINGTON – Three people were arrested and are facing theft-related charges from two separate incidences that occurred late last week.

Joe Buckman, 25, and Vicki Bachelder, 29, both of Farmington, were arrested and charged with theft of lost, mislaid, or misdelivered property and misuse of identification in a case involving a wallet left behind on a store’s counter by its owner.

According to police Officer Justin Blais, a man unintentionally left his wallet on a local store’s counter then left the store. Buckman is accused of picking up the wallet and with Bachelder going on an $800 shopping spree using a credit card from the wallet.

Blais said the pair went to the local Olympia Sports, Lotus Blossom restaurant, The Smoke Shop and Cumberland Farms convenience store on Thursday.

The missing credit card’s owner was notified by the card’s company that a series of purchases, all within a couple of hours, were made using his card . Returning to the store where he’d left his wallet, the store’s surveillance video reportedly captured Buckman and Bachelder picking up the wallet.

Blais said Buckman was found at his home and the merchandise purchased with the credit card was recovered. Buckman and Bachelder were arrested and transported to the Franklin County Detention Center on Friday.

In an unrelated case on Friday, Lance Hustus, 26, Anson, was arrested and charged with theft. Security personnel at Walmart reported that Hustus tried to leave the store with Legos stashed in his clothes.

According to Farmington police Officer Bridgette Gilbert’s report, Hustus allegedly stole $669 worth of Star Wars or Jurassic Park-themed Lego building kits by opening the boxes and taking the Lego pieces out then hiding them in his clothes before exiting the store. The thefts reportedly took place in  a few trips to the store.

  1. What i don’t understand is…..don’t these people know that every business, and a lot of homes, have security cameras all over the store/home?? Even if it is not an elaborate system ( we have trail cams) there IS a camera in most locations, and these people will get caught!

  2. If the state would just provide about 3000 a month in EBT benefits maybe the thefts would decrease.

  3. Mr Buckman looks wiped out after that intense shopping spree. Hopefully he can get some needed rest at the jailhouse.

  4. Elmer – I would like to know how you came up with that astronomical $ amount….? I sure hope it is sarcasm. How about people get up off their sorry butts, and get a job!! And, please do not tell me ‘there is no work out there’, because I see help wanted signs in many places. It is high time people take responsibility for their own lives, and stop trying to live off from other people’s hard earned $.

  5. I agree with FarmGirl and Becky go out and get a job like the rest of us. There is work out there you my not like the job but at least it a start. We all had to start somewhere. People need to take responsibility for their lives and stop getting a free ride off hard working people. Stop being lazy and make something of yourself.
