FARMINGTON – Three University of Maine at Farmington students were recognized for their work with a nonprofit organization last week, after a semester of assisting with a series of community initiatives.

Brittany White and Jediah Scott, both Seniors at UMF, were recognized Thursday at the United Way of the Tri-Valley Area office on Broadway, after concluding semester-long internships with the UMF Partnership for Civic Advancement program.  Both were the recipients of the UMF-Bangor Savings Bank Intern Award.

White worked in the United Way office, showing incredible enthusiasm for the work, according to Lisa Laflin, executive director of the local United Way organization. Scott worked with the TerraCycle Recycling Program to develop a digital portfolio of information for the initiative, which expands recycling opportunities for local businesses and institutions.

UMF officials also read a letter from intern Leona Kulge-Edwards, a Sophomore who worked with United Way’s CA$H Coalition, helping arrange the Stretch-A-Dollar Day Event and working with the free tax prep programs. Kluge-Edwards was able to undertake the internship through a Davis Family Foundation award.
