UMF students set up memorial for the victims of Newtown shootings

Two sisters, both students at UMF, freshman Mercedes Guillen, at left, and Maileny Guillen, set up an  remembrance for the victims of the shooting Friday at Sandy Hook Elementary School in Newtown, Conn. The students hung colorful balloons on a tree in front of UMF's Mantor Library and several students signed a big card offering their condolences as part of the impromptu memorial.
Two sisters, both students at the University of Maine at Farmington, freshman Mercedes Guillen, at left, and junior Maileny Guillen, set up a memorial remembrance on campus for the victims of the shooting Friday at Sandy Hook Elementary School in Newtown, Conn. As snow fell, the students hung colorful balloons on a tree in front of UMF’s Mantor Library and several students signed a big card offering their condolences as part of the impromptu memorial.
