Wanted: Town Manager for Rangeley

Who wouldn't want to be the manager of a town with views like this?

RANGELEY – The process for hiring a town manager continues after the selectmen’s top choice turned down the offer at the last minute.

“We thought we had found the right person but at the last minute the offer was declined,” said Karen Olivieri.

Olivieri, the town’s tax collector and treasurer, has been serving as interim town manager since Perry Ellsworth resigned in mid-January. Ellsworth, who had been at the helm in Rangeley for six years, took the manager’s job for the town of South Berwick.

Since Ellsworth’s departure, five candidates of 33 applications were chosen for interview by selectmen. Of those five, two were finalists and after more interviews, one applicant was offered the job but then declined it.

Olivieri said today that selectmen have re-opened the period for job applications to be submitted without a deadline until the position is filled.

In the meantime, Olivieri has completed the budget draft which selectmen will review at their March 26 meeting. Olivieri said earlier she is not an applicant for the town manager position.
