The Wilton Selectboard

WILTON – The Selectboard met Tuesday evening to hear a report from the director of the Parks and Recreation Department, discuss a proposed water rate increase and approve an application for a new finance committee member.

Kineowatha Park is preparing for warmer days by clearing the snow off ball fields and tennis courts for an easier transition, according to Director Frank Donald. Winter saw lots of activity, in particular the ice skating rink with the newly finished warming hut which offered a “nicer experience” said Donald.

“We were open for three full months, which we’ve never done in all the 30 years I’ve worked here,” Donald said.

An anonymous couple has expressed interest in making regular contributions to the department according to Donald, which could be a significant source of income for programming and management.

Water rates for the town have remained steady since 1993 according to Town Manager Rhonda Irish, but may see an increase this spring. A grant through the Maine Rural Water Association would be helping with the transition; the grant would require a public hearing to be held on May 7.

“It’s not going to be a quiet meeting if we’re talking about raising rates,” Selectman Keith Swett commented.

The public hearing will also include a new application for a Community Development Block Grant being submitted for the proposed Wilson Stream Business Park. The meeting will be held at 6 p.m. at the Town Office on May 7.

The newest member of the finance committee was approved by the board, welcoming Evret Greer to the group.

“I have an interest in politics and in order to understand politics you have to understand how to balance a budget,” Greer told the board.

  1. What, The water rates may have remained steady, but your sewer bill has tripled!!!!! Enough is enough!

  2. we pay 256 every three months for water and sewer for my wife and i,,we have tried to save on the water usage but must already be at the minimum because its always 256,,now i open this page up and headlines,,wilton talks increasing water rates,,,blows my mind,, with an increase we are going to pay near 100 bucks a month. been here a long time but really when do you say enough is enough.

  3. The town of Wilton has done a great job in keeping taxes down, but the sewer rates are astronomical rasing the water rates for people on town water are just going to drive people out of town and what business is here to locate else where.

  4. Perhaps in his Infinite wisdom Mr. Greer can explain how he understands politics when every member of Congress or any other elected official cannot balance the budget. Any public budget cannot be balanced when every dollar in circulation is borrowed at interest. You borrow a dollar you have to pay back that dollar plus interest so in order to pay the interest you have to borrow more money. That is why no government can ever get out of debt.
Good luck Mr. Greer in understanding Politics and the banking system.
