A house warming party for an entire town?

WILTON – The Wilton Free Public Library and Upright Frameworks, LLC— a Wilton-based, company that specializes in energy efficient structures — are teaming up to host “house warming” party for the entire town of Wilton.

The “house warming party” is a free public workshop on energy saving strategies for homeowners. It will take place on Saturday, Oct. 3 at 2:30 p.m. in the Academy Hill School Gymnasium in Wilton.

A certified energy auditor will teach attendees affordable ways to keep their homes warm this winter, while slashing their annual heating costs, which average $2,500 per year for Maine households. Homeowners will learn about government tax incentives and programs (including free energy audits and weatherization work) and hundreds of dollars in energy-saving products and services will be raffled off (all proceeds benefit the library). Free coffee and snacks will be served.

The workshop is just one example of many programs the library has launched as part of its mission to become a resource for families. “The Wilton Free Public Library is about much more than just books these days,” said David Olson, the library’s director. The concept of the library as a “family place” – a resource for parents trying to raise happy, healthy families – is an organizing principle of the library.

“The library has been a terrific resource for me and my company and I am excited to share our expertise with the library and with homeowners,” said Joshua Wojcik, the owner of Upright Frameworks LLC. Wojcik spent a great deal of time in the library during the research, planning and start-up phases of his company. He even jokes about having an “office” on the second floor. “I grew up in Wilton and have always been impressed by the resources available to companies and individuals in this area. I’m glad to have the chance to give something back,” said Wojcik.

Wojcik’s venture isn’t the only company lending a hand to the event. A variety of energy-saving products and services valued at hundreds of dollars will be raffled off at the event with all proceeds benefiting the library. Raffle sponsors include: Upright Frameworks LLC, Hammond Lumber Company, Dexter Building Supply, Wilton Hardware and Jay Paris Farmer’s Union.
