‘Ashes to go’ on Wednesday in Wilton, Farmington

FARMINGTON – On Wednesday, Feb. 10 the traditional Ash Wednesday practice of the imposition of ashes will move from inside church buildings out to the people on the street.

What started in Chicago in 2007 has spread across the country among Episcopal clergy to include Farmington and other towns in Maine, such as Portland, Windham, Brunswick and Lewiston.

On Wednesday, Feb. 10, Rev. Barbara J. Clarke of St. Luke’s Episcopal Church will be near the Wilton Post Office at 8 a.m. and in Farmington at noon in front of the Post Office on Main Street. “Ashes to Go” will be available to anyone who wishes the imposition of ashes and a brief blessing.

In addition, St. Luke’s in Wilton will hold a traditional Ash Wednesday service at 7 p.m. All are welcome. St. Luke’s is located at 59 High Street in Wilton, at the corner of High and School Streets.
