Bob Hiltermann will join ASL students on the Mt. Blue Campus on April 10 for a 3-hour performance.

FARMINGTON – An annual show featuring American Sign Language students and special guest Bob Hiltermann from Los Angeles, Calif. will be presenting an entertaining evening full of ASL and music on April 10.

The event runs from 6 p.m. until 9 p.m. on Friday, April 10 at the Bjorn Auditorium on Mt. Blue Campus. ASL students will share their signing skills by interpreting the event and song meanings for selected songs.

Hiltermann will provide entertainment with music, a motivational speech and interaction. As a child his family and teachers thought he was mentally challenged, because no one knew he was deaf until he was ten years old. When he finally learned Sign Language at the age of 18, it changed his life, and he went on to act in major motion pictures and television shows, teach ASL to thousands of students, perform in countless stage productions, and travel around the world as the drummer for the world-renowned all-deaf band Beethoven’s Nightmare. He learned to ignore and overcome overwhelming obstacles to live his dream.

The event costs $5, at the door.

  1. Imagine if there was a Universal Sign Language. It would allow all of the people of the world to communicate, regardless of which spoken languages they used. That might go a long way toward creating better understanding/less misunderstanding between peoples and greater peace in the world. People could travel anywhere and communicate, or communicate or do business via internet using Skype or etc. so they could see the other person. Isn’t that a worthy goal? It would be a great, valuable “Second Language”.
