WILTON – The Western Maine Blacksmith Association is hosting a knife making demonstration by Bill Reid at its regular meeting at the Wilton Farm and Home Museum on Tuesday, Aug. 5. Following a brief business meeting at 7 p.m., the demonstration will take place in the forge room on the lower level of the museum.

Reid has been a member of WMBA since its founding in 2002. He has specialized in making pocket knives and other fine blades for some time and enjoys sharing his skill with others whether they are skilled blacksmiths, novices just beginning to learn the trade, or are simply curious about how knives are made.

The Western Maine Blacksmith Association was formed to support the recreational or hobbyist blacksmith and to preserve the knowledge and techniques of the art of blacksmithing. Currently WMBA has a shop in the basement of the Wilton Historical Society building and a shop on the Farmington Fairgrounds, as well as a rolling smithy that is available for demonstrations at schools and festivals.

For more information, call WMBA member, Janine Winn at 491-1465.
