Former New Sharon resident announces her candidacy
Melanie F. Sachs has announced her candidacy for the open seat in Maine House District 106, representing Freeport and parts of Pownal.
“Ever since I worked for Senator George Mitchell in his Lewiston office, I have appreciated the significant and direct impact that public service can have on the lives of individual Maine citizens. I have spent the last 20 years in the public and private sectors working to improve and expand access to health care, education, and opportunities for youth, and hope to do the same in Augusta,” Sachs said in a prepared statement. Sachs is a licensed clinical social worker and an award-winning youth leader, with active involvement in many local organizations.
Sachs graduated from Mt. Blue High School in Farmington, Maine, and has a B.A. in Political Science from Bates College in Lewiston. She earned her master’s degree in Science and Social Administration from Case Western Reserve University.
Sachs, 42, is married to Andrew Sachs, vice president at Witt Associates, a crisis management company founded by former Federal Emergency Management Agency (FEMA) Director James Lee Witt, who was a member of the Cabinet under President Bill Clinton. They have two children.
