Full Moon Zen Buddhist Sangha to celebrate Earth Day Monday evening

1 min read

FARMINGTON – Full Moon Zen Buddhist Sangha will recognize Earth Day with a special service Monday evening.

The service will begin at 6:30 p.m. at Work First, Inc. at 309 Wilton Road. It will feature a recording of The Great Bell Chant, a meditation period with nature sounds, and readings dedicated to the Earth and the natural world.

Sangha members are encouraged to bring a small item from nature to display on the Buddha altar.

Earth Day is officially celebrated on April 22. Buddhism has always emphasized the interconnectedness of all phenomena. Zen in particular has developed art forms — brush painting, flower arranging, haiku and the famous temple gardens — that celebrate nature and humanity’s place in it.

Full Moon Sangha is a Zen practice group in the Plum Village tradition of Vietnamese Zen, led by Thich Nhat Hanh, Dharma teacher, Buddhist scholar, poet, author and peace activist. Weekly Monday night services begin at 6:30 p.m. and include chanting, seated and meditation periods, readings and Dharma sharing. For more information check fullmoonsangha.org.
