Full steam ahead for Chesterville Heritage Center renovation

CHESTERVILLE - The two-story structure that once housed one of the town’s two fire departments is now being renovated to serve as the town’s Heritage Society.

As the building aged it has shown many signs of decay and needed renovations to transition it from fire station to Heritage Society. The Society has hosted many fundraisers over the years to provide money for the needed renovation and restoration of the building with the goal of collection, presentation, preservation and interpretation of Chesterville’s heritage for its community.

Members of Chesterville’s Heritage Society gave the building in Chesterville Center a face lift recently; a new roof is the latest project. With the roof completed the building is now watertight. Every effort is being made to preserve historic portions of the building when possible such as the fire whistle which was removed, repainted, tested and replaced to its honorary location on the roof.

Work days are planned once a month to complete the many remaining tasks with a goal of welcoming everyone to visit the Society soon. Progress made so far include installing a new floor, electricity to the building, new lighting, insulation, structural repairs, wall board installation just to name a few inside renovations. This is a big project with much hard work being completed by approximately 12 active members and a core of dedicated volunteers. The Chesterville Heritage Society welcomes support both in the form of monetary donations and physical labor. Much more money is needed to complete the proposed remodel, as the project list grows. The Heritage Society recognizes and is very grateful for the generous donations and support that have poured in from the community thus far.
