  1. Makes me sad that they now have to request high school students to sign up for Girls’ State…….. My recollection (which might be wrong!) was that the schools made the selections; we could go or not and ‘the honor’ would be passed along to another.

Went there (Colby College campus) a LONG time ago; but it was such an wonderful honor to be selected. (Yeah, some of it was a tad boring, but the people you met more than made up for any boredom!!) It is a GOOD thing to learn about how your government works! What a marvelous experience to spend a week with other girls who were bright, friendly, devoted to their schools/homes, families/country. Yep, color me OLD, but color me grateful for the experience.

  2. In case anyone of MY vintage has forgotten, Shirley Williams (Wilton) was one of the most wonderful people God ever put on God’s Green Earth and was so devoted to the American Legion, etc.!! She made Girls’ State a very Big Deal for many, many years!! (Never mind that she played the piano at my beloved Mary Vanderhoff’s School of Dance; Shirley was an Angel!!)
