FARMINGTON – The Gold LEAF Institute Senior College invites you to its Spring Term Kickoff on Wednesday, Feb. 17 from 3-5 p.m. at the North Dining Hall, UMF Student Center, 111 South Street, Farmington.
Come join us to meet the presenters and other Gold LEAF members. This event is free and open to the public. Refreshments will be provided. Anyone age 50 or older who is interested in learning about Gold LEAF is welcome to attend.
There are no educational requirements, no homework, no tests and only minimal fees for courses. Courses vary in length from one short session or one day to sessions over several weeks. Some begin the week after kickoff and some run through the end of June.
This term’s offerings include:
• Self-Defense for Seniors
• Film Series focusing on twentieth century world history
• Weekly Tai Chi class open to beginners as well as experienced practitioners
• An Art History and appreciation class focusing on European painters from 1400 to 1800
• Discussion group covering current events and politics
• An Introduction to Emu farming including a field trip to an emu farm
• Trip to a Midcoast Symphony Orchestra concert
• Computer Workshop focusing on FAQ
• Class on the brain science of consciousness
• Four-session class studying relations between the United States and Iran before and after the 2015 Nuclear Agreement.
• Monday morning kayak paddle trips on area lakes and ponds
• Knitting for Fun
• The continuing monthly Book Discussion group
• Sustainable energy UMF campus tour
• Class on alternative funeral and burial arrangements
• Three session class studying the US Constitution
• Trip to Bath and presentation on the reconstruction of the historic ship: The Virginia
• Tour of Viles Arboretum in Augusta
• Presentation on Maine Huts and Trails
• An introduction to Feng Shui
• Study of poetry, art and photography with a lunar theme
